Three Days in Savannah

A relaxed city break filled with art, warm air, and a coastal escape

By Aleyah Solomon

One of the most dynamic things about the city is its creative energy. Art has a strong presence here, woven right into the streets. SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) plays a big role in that, shaping the visual landscape and drawing artists from all over. You see it everywhere—in the galleries, the shop windows, the murals, and even the way locals express themselves.

We made the most of our time, wandering without a strict plan. On one of the days, we took a break from the city and around an hour to Hilton Head Island for a beach day. The warm sand and open horizon were a perfect contrast to the cozy, historic feel of Savannah.

By the end of the trip, I understood why so many people spoke so fondly of this place. It’s a city that stays with you—not because it overwhelms, but because it quietly settles in. It gives you space to slow down, to notice, and to simply be. And sometimes, that’s exactly what you need.

Leading up to my road trip to Savannah, Georgia, so many people told me I’d fall in love with the city. So going in, expectations were already high. I planned a three-day trip with my pup, staying at the Thunderbird Inn—a fun, retro-style, dog-friendly hotel just a short walk from downtown.

Savannah is a very walkable city. We spent hours exploring on foot, weaving through quiet streets shaded by huge oaks and Spanish moss. The pace here is slower, more relaxed. There’s something about the way the light hits the buildings, the sound of the trees in the breeze—it creates a kind of calm you feel immediately.
